Interesting Music Promotions Announce Their Latest Season

From James Yorkston to the Phantom Band, it's a treat for Aberdeen music fans.

We can`t all live in London, hell some of us can`t even get it together to make it to Glasgow. So, when you live in a musical backwater such as Aberdeen, it`s important to clutch every opportunity to see real, live, interesting music and never let it go. This is where the Granite City`s Interesting Music Promotions come in, and their programme for Autumn 2009 isn`t just exciting, it`s bound to illicit a pang of jealousy from those living in the UK`s more musically vibrant cities.

First up, on 8th September, comes a show at The Tunnels from alt.country favourites Willard Grant Conspiracy. The band inhabit a sound somewhere between John Cale and Johnny Cash and their last LP picked up the Album of the Month award in Uncut magazine. Support comes from Doghouse Roses.

On 3rd October Glasgow`s Belle and Sebastian-associated Zoey Van Goey drop by Snafu along with Strike the Colours and, a fortnight later, we get two great shows within days of each other. James Yorkston drops The Tunnels on 15th October by with his Big Eyes Family Players to play some or all of his recent triumphant album of timeless folk songs (imaginatively titled `Folk Songs` and special guests Mary Hampton and David A Jaycock. Three days later, again at the Tunnels, Boston`s greatest "alternative bluegrass band" Crooked Still play a show with Smokin` Catfish.

Perhaps most exciting of all, however, is a Chemikal Underground Records showcase at the Lemon Tree on 20th November that sees unstoppable stars of 2009 The Phantom Band join former Delgado Emma Pollock, former Arab Strapper Aidan Moffat (with the Best-Ofs in tow) and former De Rosa frontman Martin John Henry in a delicious flavour of one of Scotland`s best loved independent labels.

Ha, indeed. The point was, if we didn't have people like imp getting these great acts up here then who else will? Unfortunately when acts are booking tours there can't be many who say "Hey, we really must play Aberdeen" can there? Cue loads of examples of bands who love the Granite City....!
