After the success of Animal Collective’s 2009 ‘breakthrough’ Merriweather Post Pavilion, and lending his vocal talents to the likes of Atlas Sound and Pantha Du Prince, Panda Bear (aka Noah Lennox) is back with an album of his own.
In the months preceding the release of Tomboy, the hotly anticipated successor to the stunning sample wizardry of Person Pitch, Panda Bear will be releasing several limited 7″ singles — on different labels.
The first of said seven inches to hit the baited ears of millions is LP title track Tomboy backed with Slow Motion. Tomboy maintains the kind of upbeat vibe found on Panda Bear’s previous solo album Person Pitch, but forged with a new sonic language that isn’t as sample-centric. Dance beats meld effortlessly with electric guitars and Noah’s now trademark vocal harmonies to create the next Panda Bear sound.
Each release is to be a limited edition, one time vinyl-only pressing, across labels such as Fat Cat, Domino and Kompakt — with the Tomboy 7″ released on the Animal Collective staple Paw Tracks.
Recorded and produced by Panda Bear at his studio in Lisbon, Portugal, Tomboy (the 7″, not the 12″) is released on 12th July.
Here’s a little Panda Bear of old to whet your appetite.
