tardust Galaxies, The Parlotones latest album, was released in Europe a mere three days before the World Cup began. This may seem of little significance, until their nationality becomes known… yep, South African. Conveniently, they find themselves playing alongside worldwide A-listers such as Shakira, The Black Eyed Peas and Alicia Keys at the FIFA World Cup Kick Off celebration in Soweto… how’s that for a bit of cheeky publicity? Single Push Me To The Floor, taken from their 3rd studio album, unfortunately leads belief that the song itself played very little part in securing their spot at the opening ceremony.

Lead vocalist Kahn Morbee wails a cross between a weak Matt Bellamy and The Hoosiers’ Irwin Sparkes as the verse plods along, only to be broken by a chorus that is good, but not great. Kicking in, but not forcefully with a catchy melody that’s disappointingly formulaic and overcooked. Before a 4 minute expectation of something to go somewhere, it’s over and there’s a struggle to remember a significant moment. Alongside a ridiculously odd and frustrating video, perhaps the white wine that the band have released under the same name will swing things?! That’s got to be a first, we’ll give them that.
