The Road to V Just Got Shorter

Competition finallists announced for an opening slot at V festival.

Many may question what glory there is in being ignored simultaneously by thousands of punters who've turned up only to see Amy Winehouse croak her way through some Mark Ronson numbers but, cynical though we are, there's no denying that a spot opening the V festival is an opportunity to be cherished - and that's exactly what's on offer as first prize in the 'Road to V' talent contest.

Previous winners of the competition include the phenomenal Young Knives, the now largely forgotten Keith and Bombay Bicycle Club and last year's winners Rosalita and The Brightlights. Now we are down to the final fourteen bands looking to emulate those who have won before by opening up this year's Main Stage twice in Staffordshire and Chelmsford.

The final fourteen acts in the competition are Imperial Leisure, Flashguns, Idle Lovers, Mama Shamone, The More Assured, Walk. Donít Walk. Matt Trakker, Blasterbra, Married To The Sea, Alexis Blue, The Rebs, Situationists, KC and The Shallow Call. They will now fight it out over 5 gigs at the Carling Academy in Liverpool on 7th & 8th May and at the Carling Academy Islington on 13th, 14th & 15th May. They'll have to impress a judging panel that includes former Libertine Carl Bar‚t, NME's Mark Beaumont and the V festival promoter Mags Revell.

To keep up with the competition and find out more about the bands inlcuding interviews and music downloads, head to now.
