Philip Jeays was born in 1962 and raised in the south of England. He began performing in the 1980s, but didn't release his first album (October) until 1999. He is one of a few singers and songwriters (along with
Des De Moor, Barb Jungr, Robb Johnson and others) who have sought to develop the profile of the "chanson" tradition in England. Many of Jeays' songs display a barbed wit, delivered in a dramatic and often intense style.
