Yes Yes Y'All (ft Roxanne Shante)
Always the best looking partnership in dance music is Mekon and Roxanne Shante, together again for the first time since 2000's epic 'What's Going On?', this takes the stomping blueprint of their first collaboration and pummels it with driving, droning synths and pounding, mechanical beats. Mekon also gives a sly nod to his old 'big beat' career with the inclusion of a cover of his own 'Red Tape' (done under the Agent Provocateur moniker some ten years ago). Of the remixes you need to look out for the Sinden 'Baile Funk' mix transforming the track to M.I.A.-style glitch territory and the essential Duke Dumont Remix - you won't find a bigger floor filler this year!
So producer/Mr Mekon John Gosling used to be part of Pyschic TV and man does it show. Boy Bitten has all the creepy experimentation that used to surround Genesis P Orridge's second major musical outing whilst keeping quite a hypnotic dance rhythm.Blood on the Moon however is far more "out there" in terms of noise abuse and shouldn't approached by the faint hearted.Sonehow I don't see Mekon taking on the likes of Shakira for the UK's top spot and to be frank, that's probably not a bad thing.
